Environ. & Water Res. Dir. Wollnik stated that there are four stream gages that
share the cost with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for main rivers
and streams. She noted that the gages inform residents of flooding events, and
data is reported online to advise anyone using watercraft along the river to
identify flow rates and flood plain safety. Wollnik stated that gage data is being
utilized at the Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) for flood plain mapping for
areas where gage data is critical. As more short duration and high intensity
storms are developing, gage data is interpreted into the models for more
accurate data to project future flood elevations. Discussion ensued.
