Health Department Updates
A.
Kane County Health Department (KCHD) Exec. Dir. Isaacson stated that the
new building in Elgin will provide the community organization and added space
to host department events. He thanked building management and the
information technology (IT) staff for all their support. The KCHD is working with
the Illinois Health Department to ensure that people are getting accurate
information. Isaacson addressed questions and comments from the Committee.
Discussion ensued.
Elgin Facility Updates
B.
ITD/BLD Exec. Dir. Fahnestock provided updates on the Elgin Facility. He
reviewed the history of the facility. Due to water damage, the building's roof was
completely replaced last year. The building is 46K square feet, with a total of
four spaces, and it was built in 2002. The property is part of a four quadrant
development park, with corporate neighbors including Panasonic, Visa First
Card, and Motorola. The sale price was reduced from $3.5M to $2.8M.
Fahnestock noted that the renovation was estimated at $2.45M, and the total
repairs estimate was $1.8M. Fahnestock noted that all twenty-nine new rooftop
units and a new HVAC system were paid through the American Rescue Plan Act
(ARPA) and federal funding. The goal of the renovation was to occupy the
building as is, and to take advantage of the space while architect plans the
renovation and bids the construction work to be approved for 2026. The Health
Department is located in Suite 100, and the County Clerk and Coroner is located
in Suite 600. Since the final design has not been completed, Fahnestock shared
several artificial intelligence (AI) examples that were generated to show ideas of
the types of spaces the Health Department is planning to construct. The
anticipated completion of the entire project is November 2026. Further
discussion ensued.
