RESCINDING PROCLAMATION TO KANE COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE FROM KANE COUNTY BOARD ON FEBRUARY 14, 2023

WHEREAS, on February 14, 2023, the Kane County Board voted 22-1 to pass a 2023 Proclamation Recognizing the Kane County Clerk's Office for the U.S. Center for Election Excellence Distinction (from U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence), and such Proclamation referenced a $2,000,000 (Two Million Dollar) grant the Clerk's Office would receive as a U.S. Center for Election Excellence; and
WHEREAS, the Proclamation claimed that "[t]he Kane County Clerk's Office strives to be the most transparent, accessible and secure election authority in Illinois"; and
WHEREAS, a tax form 990 for the Center for Technology and Civic Life, which was included in the March 14, 2023, Kane County Board Agenda packet, shows donations without naming the contributors; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Kane County who have been attending County Board meetings and Public Service Committee meetings have lost confidence in the Clerk's office; and
WHEREAS, the Clerk (and his election staff) have been requested to attend public committee meetings, yet only 1 person attends and cannot provide specific answers; and
WHEREAS, after an inquiry into the April 4, 2023 election, the State's Attorney's Office reported that election results were posted to the Clerk's website incorrectly due to human error in the Clerk's office, but that the error was rectified once it was found out, and that there was no evidence that the election was tampered with or that the results as certified are not valid; and
WHEREAS, there was no transparency or professional responsibility by the Clerk and the Election staff when asked repeatedly by citizens what happened in the 2023 election; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kane County Board that the February 14, 2023 Proclamation Recognizing the Kane County Clerk's Office for ...
