APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF ONE QUANTSTUDIO 5 REAL-TIME PCR SYSTEM FOR THE KANE COUNTY FORENSIC LABORATORY BY THE KANE COUNTY CORONER'S OFFICE

WHEREAS, the Kane County Forensic Laboratory, housed at the Kane County Sheriff's Office, was founded by the members of the Opioid Settlement Fund Committee to enhance the use of forensic testing to track opioid use in this County and to support the justice-involved work of the Coroner's Office, Sheriff's Office, and State's Attorney's Office; and
WHEREAS, the forensic lab team is working toward acquiring the equipment and supplies necessary to ensure the lab is fully functional and compliant so that it is able to meet law enforcement needs for Kane County and beyond, including DNA analysis requirements; and
WHEREAS, Bid Request #26-046-TL was issued for one (1) QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR System for the Lab; and
WHEREAS, the QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR System detects DNA and quantifies its amount after extraction, a requirement for the downstream generation of DNA profiles. This system is highly sensitive with a large range of detection and is widely used across the forensic community for this type of quantification; and
WHEREAS, Thermo Fisher Scientific (Life Technologies) of Pleasanton, CA, the sole source provider of this system, provided a bid in the amount of One Hundred Thousand Six Hundred Fifty-One and 58/100 Dollars ($100,651.58) for the complete system plus a two-year additional service contract; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR System is included in the Kane County Coroner's FY27 budget with accepted federal grant funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board approves the purchase of one (1) QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR System plus a two-year additional service contract for the Kane County Forensic Lab by the Coroner's Office at a cost of One Hundred Thousand Six Hundred F...
