APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF ONE CRIME-LITE ML PRO FORENSIC EVIDENCE SCREENING INSTRUMENT FOR THE KANE COUNTY FORENSIC LABORATORY BY THE KANE COUNTY CORONER'S OFFICE

WHEREAS, the Kane County Forensic Laboratory, housed at the Kane County Sheriff's Office, was founded by the members of the Opioid Settlement Fund Committee to enhance the use of forensic testing to track opioid use in this County and to support the justice-involved work of the Coroner's Office, Sheriff's Office, and State's Attorney's Office; and
WHEREAS, the forensic lab team is working toward acquiring the equipment and supplies necessary to ensure the lab is fully functional and compliant so that it is able to meet law enforcement needs for Kane County and beyond, including DNA analysis requirements; and
WHEREAS, Bid Request #26-042-TL was issued for one (1) Crime-lite ML Pro forensic evidence screening instrument for the Lab; and
WHEREAS, the Crime-lite ML Pro was designed, validated, and optimized for the examination of evidence that may be used in court, visualizing and documenting evidence not visible under normal lighting conditions by using multiple wavelengths of light with a modified full-spectrum imaging system; and
WHEREAS, Foster and Freeman USA, Inc. of Ashburn, VA, the sole source for the equipment, provided a bid in the amount of Sixty-Three Thousand Seven Hundred Thirty-Seven and 20/100 Dollars ($63,737.20) for the complete system; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the Crime-lite ML Pro instrument is included in the Kane County Coroner's FY27 budget with accepted federal grant funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board approves the purchase of the Crime-lite ML Pro forensic evidence screening instrument for the Kane County Forensic Lab by the Coroner's Office at a cost of Sixty-Three Thousand Seven Hundred Thirty-Seven and 20/100 Dollars ($63,737.20) from Foster and Freema...
