Adopting the 2024 Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan

WHEREAS, the County of Kane is subject to natural hazards that can threaten life and health and have caused extensive property damage; and
WHEREAS, a Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan for Kane County has been required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) since November 2003 in support of state or federal mitigation grant funding; and
WHEREAS, on October 14, 2003, the Kane County Board passed Resolution No. 03-308 adopting the Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan and established the County-wide Mitigation Coordinating Committee; and
WHEREAS, FEMA requires that the Kane County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan be updated every five years; and
WHEREAS, the Kane County Mitigation Coordinating Committee has updated the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and FEMA has reviewed and conditionally approved the Kane County plan pending County and participating municipalities adoption; and
WHEREAS, , the County’s residents have been invited to participate in the plan update process and the updated plan has been circulated for review to state and regional agencies and has been supported by those reviewers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board that the 2024 Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan be adopted as the operational plan for the multi-jurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation program within Kane County.
