ADOPTING THE ILLINOIS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT MUTUAL AID SYSTEM INTERGOVERNMENTAL SERVICE AGREEMENT

WHEREAS, the Kane County Board, pursuant to Kane County Code Section 8-14, established the Office of Emergency Management in 1976 to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters from natural or manmade causes; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that emergency situations may occur that are beyond the capabilities of the Office of Emergency Management to deal with effectively, in terms of personnel, equipment, and resources; and
WHEREAS, in adopting the Illinois Emergency Management Mutual Aid System Intergovernmental Service Agreement ("Service Agreement"), Kane County, as one of the Members thereof, hereby expresses its intent to assist a nearby member jurisdiction by assigning as appropriate some of its personnel, equipment, or resources to the requesting member jurisdiction as situations allow; and
WHEREAS, said Service Agreement is authorized by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act, Section 3305/13, and Kane County Code Section 8-19 allows participation in mutual aid agreements once approved by the Kane County Board and the Director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS); and
WHEREAS, said Service Agreement has been approved by the Director of IEMA-OHS; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of Kane County to have access to necessary mutual aid assistance for the residents of Kane County when needed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board that the Chairman thereof is hereby authorized and directed to execute the Illinois Emergency Management Mutual Aid System Intergovernmental Service Agreement.
