Approving and Authorizing Execution of Intergovernmental Agreement with McHenry County for Temporary Use of the Kane County Morgue and Facilities at the Kane County Coroner’s Office

WHEREAS, Article VII, Section 10 of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, and the Illinois Intergovernmental Cooperation Act (5 ILCS 220/1 et seq.) authorizes units of local government to cooperate in the performance of their respective duties and responsibilities by contract and other agreements; and
WHEREAS, during renovations at the McHenry Coroner’s Office and Morgue, the McHenry County Coroner and the Kane County Coroner desire to facilitate the McHenry County Coroner’s Office’s temporary use of the Kane County morgue and facilities at the Kane County Coroner’s Office (“Facilities”); and
WHEREAS, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office’s temporary use of the Facilities is expected to conclude in early January 2026 and will not cause any disruption to the operations of the Kane County Coroner’s Office; and
WHEREAS, a draft intergovernmental agreement is attached hereto and incorporated as Exhibit A.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board approves of an intergovernmental agreement with McHenry County, attached hereto as Exhibit A, and authorizes the Kane County Board Chairman and/or the Kane County Coroner to execute such intergovernmental agreement, subject to final review and advisement of the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
