APPROVING PAYMENT OF COMMERCIAL AVIATION INSURANCE – UNMANNED AIRCRAFT COVERAGE FY2026 THROUGH FY2027 FOR KANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DRONE OPERATIONS

WHEREAS, Kane County has entered into a service agreement with Alliant Insurance to provide broker services for all lines of commercial insurance for fiscal year 2026 and fiscal year 2027; and
WHEREAS, Kane County has entered into an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Aurora through the Aurora Police Department for a Drone as First Responder (DFR) Program “to enhance public safety and support law enforcement efforts within their respective jurisdictions”; and
WHEREAS, the intergovernmental agreement for the DFR Program lists insurance requirements for Kane County which are not fully satisfied by commercial insurance policies approved by The Kane County Board; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of Kane County to protect the interests of Kane County by procuring commercial aviation insurance coverage for approved public safety operations involving unmanned aircraft for the remainder of fiscal year 2026 and extending through fiscal year 2027.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board authorizes premiums and fees in the amount of $27,195 for the premium covering the remainder of fiscal year 2026 through November 30, 2027; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Finance Director is instructed to allocate the cost of this policy to the County’s Special Revenue Funds in fiscal year 2027.
