Resolution Approving a Contract with Wight and Company for Professional Design Services for an Urban Ecology Field Station at Arlene Shoemaker Forest Preserve

WHEREAS, the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois, finds it necessary and desirable to retain the services of Wight & Company of Darien, Illinois, for professional services which include design and grant assistance for an Urban Ecology Field Station at Arlene Shoemaker Forest Preserve in Aurora; and
WHEREAS, the District plans to seek funding assistance from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Park and Recreational Facility Construction grant (PARC). Although the grant program has yet to be announced for the 2026 season in the past available funds have been associated with the State of Illinois Capital Bill and could reimburse 75% of the project cost up to $2,800,000; and
WHEREAS, the District used a qualification-based selection process to select a consultant that would provide professional services for design and grant-application assistance; and
WHEREAS, Wight & Company has submitted a proposal not to exceed $50,000 for these services. Additionally, $5,000 shall be set aside as contingency to cover any unanticipated additional costs that may arise during design, for a total project amount of $55,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Forest Preserve District Board of Commissioners of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois, retain Wight & Company of Darien, Illinois, to provide professional design and grant assistance services for the Urban Ecology Field Station at Arlene Shoemaker Forest Preserve, at a cost not to exceed fifty-five thousand dollars ($55,000.00).
