AUTHORIZING A FOOD SERVICES CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR THE JUVENILE JUSTICE CENTER

WHEREAS, the existing food service contract between Aramark Correctional Services LLC and the sheriff's office and juvenile justice center expires on 12/31/25. The agreement includes two mutually agreed upon one-year extensions; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2602.110 of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice Standards for County Juvenile Detention Centers, juvenile detention facilities shall provide meals at reasonable intervals and food must be of sufficient nutritional value. Pursuant to Article 16 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Court Services and Teamsters Local 330, employees shall be served meals no different in quality, quantity or menu than that served to youth. Pursuant to 105 ILCS 125/4 and 23 Illinois Administrative Code 305.10, every public school, including public special education facilities, must have a free breakfast and lunch program; and
WHEREAS, the funding for these services is already budgeted for and the juvenile justice center is able to accommodate the nominal increase in the cost of meals. The current meal price is $2.100 and the new meal price will be $2.180, which is an annual increase of Four Thousand Three Hundred and Eighty dollars ($4,380). The Kane County Juvenile Justice Center is enrolled in the Illinois Free Breakfast and Lunch Programs and is reimbursed a portion of the cost of those meals; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the County and the Juvenile Justice Center to remain in compliance with the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice Standards for County Juvenile Detention Centers and the Illinois State Board of Education Food Service Rules; and
