Resolution Approving a Bid for Teasel Control At Three Forest Preserves

WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary and desirable for the Commissioners of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois to authorize a bid for control of teasel at portions of three preserves; and
WHEREAS, the District actively restores areas using modern fire suppression, clearing, and chemical treatments of both herbaceous and woody species; and
WHEREAS, the non-native, invasive plant teasel (Dipsacus spp.) is an aggressively spreading species that infests many District uplands. It spreads an abundant and viable seed bank that persists for numerous years and crowds out the ability for native species to thrive; and
WHEREAS, Contractors were sought to bid on spring/summer 2026 control projects of multiple, separate infestations of teasel, across three different preserves. The qualified, lowest bids for each project were as follows:
Project 1 Oakhurst Forest Preserve (108 acres): Bid of $12,200.76 by Bluestem Ecological Solutions
Project 2 Settler's Hill Golf Course (176 acres): Bid of $22,528 by Woods to Wetlands, LLC
Project 3 Stearns Road Corridor (126 acres): Bid of $35,738.64 by Integrated Lakes Management
WHEREAS, the total for the above three projects is $70,467.40.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois that the bids received from Bluestem Ecological Services for project 1 at a cost of $12,200.76, Woods to Wetlands LLC for project 2 at a cost of $22,528.00, and Integrated Lakes Management for project 3 at a cost of $35,738.64 for the control of teasel at three Forest Preserves totaling $70,467.40 are hereby accepted and approved.
APPROVED AND PASSED on this 10th day of March, 2026.
