ANIMAL CONTROL DEA LICENSE APPLICATION

WHEREAS, pursuant to the Illinois Animal Control Act (510 ILCS 5/1 et seq.) and Chapter 5 of the Kane County Code (Animal Control Ordinance), the Kane County Animal Control (KCAC) is responsible for the care and treatment of all animals, current and future, in its care; and
WHEREAS, KCAC seeks to obtain a license from the U.S. Department of Justice - Drug Enforcement Administration to dispense controlled substances in the daily medical operations; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice - Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issues DEA license to animal shelters for the purpose of authorizing the purchase and use of controlled substances in schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, 5 regarding the daily care of animals in the shelter; and
WHEREAS, obtaining a DEA license will ensure continual operation at the KCAC facility in the event of termination or retirement of the County Veterinarian.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board hereby authorizes Kane County Animal Control and the Administrator thereof to take any necessary steps to complete an application to the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration to obtain a Controlled Substance Registration Certificate (DEA license) in accordance with all applicable federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kane County Board hereby grants the Administrator of KCAC, upon obtaining a valid DEA license, authority for purchasing of scheduled drugs under the DEA license at KCAC for purposes of animal welfare in accordance with all applicable federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
