title
ESTABLISHING THE OFFICIAL ROAD NAME FOR A SEGMENT OF ILLINOIS ROUTE 31 IN UNINCORPORATED KANE COUNTY

body
WHEREAS, there presently exists in Section 33, Batavia Township, Kane County, Illinois, a segment of Illinois Route 31 located in unincorporated Kane County between the Mooseheart Road entrance to the north and the incorporated limits of the Village of North Aurora to the south that is currently referenced inconsistently in various records as "Aurora-Batavia Road" and "Lincolnway"; and

WHEREAS, property assessment records, United States Postal Service addressing, and the mailing addresses of properties along this roadway segment identify the street name as "Lincolnway," and there are no street signs naming the road at this location; and

WHEREAS, KaneComm reports that callers commonly reference this roadway as Illinois Route 31 or Lincoln Highway, and the use of multiple names may create confusion for emergency response and public service delivery; and

WHEREAS, there is a public interest in establishing a single, consistent road name so that the roadway may be referred to with certainty, consistent with Kane County Board Resolution 89-148; and

WHEREAS, affirming the common name "Lincolnway" will align County records with existing addressing practices and minimize impacts to property owners and postal delivery.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kane County Board that the official road name for the segment of Illinois Route 31 in unincorporated Kane County between Mooseheart Road to the north and the North Aurora incorporated limits to the south shall be "Lincolnway."

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a location map depicting the affected roadway segment shall be attached hereto as Exhibit A and made part of this resolution.

Passed by the Kane County Board on April 14, 2026.
