Authorizing Senior Tag Fee Correction

WHEREAS, the Illinois Animal Control Act (510 ILCS 5/1, et seq.) and the Kane County Code Chapter 5, Article IV, Section 5-8 regulate and authorize the regulation of animal registration and inoculation; and
WHEREAS, Animal Control seeks to update senior rabies tag registration fees; and
WHEREAS, the fees collected from these rabies vaccination tags fund animal control and all of the programs they run; and
WHEREAS, all changes will be effective January first (1st) two thousand twenty-five (2025); and
WHEREAS, the Illinois Animal Control Act allows counties to set fees for rabies registration. The act says that a minimum tag fee differential of ten dollars ($10) must be applied between neutered and non-neutered animals; and
WHEREAS, the altered tag fees will change by ten dollars ($10) for senior non-neutered animals. This will apply to both 1 year and 3 year tags.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board does hereby authorize Kane County Animal Control to raise registration fees on non-neutered senior tags starting January 1, 2025 as follows:
• The cost of registration for spayed/neutered (Altered) senior owned dogs and cats will be zero dollars ($0) for a one (1) year tag and three (3) year rabies tag.
• The cost of registration for non-spayed/neutered (unaltered) senior owned dogs and cats will be 10 dollars ($10) for a one (1) year tag and three (3) year rabies tag.
