Authorizing Supplemental Appropriation and Budget Adjustments for the Public Defender’s Office

WHEREAS, the Kane County Public Defender’s Office employs individuals who are members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME);
WHEREAS, the AFSCME contract terminated on November 30, 2023;
WHEREAS, the Chief Judge, Public Defender, and AFSCME entered into a new contract on December 29, 2023;
WHEREAS, the new contract term is from December 1, 2023 until November 30, 2026 with a first year pay increase of 9%;
WHEREAS, because negotiations did not begin until after County Board passed the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, the Public Defender could not include the pay increases for the union employees in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget;
WHEREAS, an increase in the 2024 Appropriation and Budget for the General Fund is necessary to fund the salary and related benefit increases.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kane County Board that the following supplemental appropriation budget adjustment be made to the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget:
