Declaring a Vacancy in the Office of County Board Member in the County of Kane (District 9)

WHEREAS, section 25-2 of the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/25-2) sets out the events on which an elective office becomes vacant; and
WHEREAS, section 25-11 of the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/25-11) and section 2-28 of the Kane County Code set forth a procedure that is followed when a vacancy occurs in the office of county board member; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 25-11 of the Illinois Election Code, when a vacancy occurs in an elective county office, the county board must publicly declare that the vacancy exists and notice of the vacancy must be given to the county central committee of each established political party; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 25-11 of the Election Code, the vacancy shall be filled within sixty (60) days by appointment of the chair of the county board with the advice and consent of the county board; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 25-11 of the Illinois Election Code, the appointee shall be a member of the same political party as the person he or she succeeds was at the time of his or her election and shall be otherwise eligible to serve, and the appointee must be a resident of the county board district; and
WHEREAS, on December 31, 2025, a vacancy occurred in the office of county board member in the County of Kane, District 9; and
WHEREAS, notice of this vacancy has been given to the county central committee of each established political party in Kane County; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 25-11 of the Illinois Election Code, the appointee shall serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kane County Board that a vacancy is declared in the office of county board member in the County of Kane, District 9.
