Adopting a Kane County Climate Action Implementation Plan

WHEREAS, climate change impacts the well-being and economic stability of our communities; and
WHEREAS, actions taken by the Kane County government and local communities to decrease greenhouse gases can offer multiple benefits to the residents by providing energy cost savings, improving air quality and health, and climate resilience; and
WHEREAS, on April 19th, 2019 Kane County endorsed the Greenest Region Compact, an agreement to work toward enhanced quality of life for residents; protection and stewardship of the environment and sustainable economic vitality; and
WHEREAS, on March 1st, 2024 the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus completed the Priority Climate Action Plan for the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area to support states, large metropolitan regions, tribes, and territories in planning for potential investment in strategic climate action through the Inflation Reduction Act; and
WHEREAS, a team of 82 members across Kane County, including County staff, developed the Kane County Climate Action Implementation Plan. The Plan recommends actions that encourage and support action on a community basis that will improve Kane County’s economics, health and environment; and
WHEREAS, the Climate Action Implementation Plan has two main goals: 1) reducing greenhouse gases by 25% by 2030 and 2) reaching 100% carbon neutrality by 2050.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Climate Action Implementation Plan is hereby adopted and that staff is directed to encourage and support the Implementation and Actions goals in the Plan.
