Authorizing the Public Sharing of Geographic Information System (GIS) Data

WHEREAS, the Kane County GIS Technologies Department is responsible for acquiring, developing, maintaining, and managing spatially enabled datasets used to support County operations and services; and
WHEREAS, these datasets provide significant value to both public and private entities by supporting planning, analysis, transparency, and informed decision-making within Kane County; and
WHEREAS, sharing Geographic Information System (GIS) data can enhance public access to information, promote collaboration with regional partners, and support economic development, research, and community planning; and
WHEREAS, the Kane County GIS Technologies Department has determined that providing public access to certain GIS datasets, where appropriate and in accordance with applicable laws and County policies, is in the best interest of the County and its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kane County Board that the Kane County Information Technologies Department and GIS Technologies Department are hereby authorized to make appropriate GIS-related datasets available to the public through publicly accessible platforms, websites, open data portals, or other appropriate distribution methods in a manner consistent with any and all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
