Authorizing the FY2026 Technology and Equipment Program Grant for the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and Corresponding Budget Adjustments

WHEREAS, the Kane County Board passed Ordinance 25-387, adopting the Fiscal Year 2026 Annual Appropriations and Budget; and
WHEREAS, the Kane County Board passed Ordinance 26-338, adopting the Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Appropriations and Budget; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (“COPS”) FY2026 Technology and Equipment Program provides funding to state, territorial, local, Tribal, and other entities to develop and acquire effective law enforcement equipment, technologies, and interoperable communications that assist in responding to and preventing crime and expand the implementation of community policing; and
WHEREAS, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has been awarded a FY2026 COPS Technology and Equipment Program grant in the amount of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) with an award period ending on January 31, 2028; and
WHEREAS, the grant will be split over Kane County’s Fiscal Year 2026 and Fiscal Year 2027; and
WHEREAS, the portion applicable to Kane County Fiscal Year 2026 is One Hundred Twenty Thousand Five Hundred Seventy-One Dollars ($120,571) and the portion applicable to Kane County Fiscal Year 2027 is Eight Hundred Seventy-Nine Thousand Four Hundred Twenty-Nine dollars ($879,429); and
WHEREAS, budget adjustments, in accordance with 55 ILCS 5/6-1003, are required to account for this grant funding for the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office in Kane County’s Fiscal Year 2026 and Fiscal Year 2027; and
WHEREAS, because Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000) has already been included in the Kane County Fiscal Year 2027 budget for this grant, the necessary budget adjustment for Fiscal Year 2027 is in the amount of Six Hundred Seventy-Nine Thousand Four Hundred Twenty-Nine Dollars ($679,429).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board authorizes the acceptance of the COPS FY2026 Technology and Equipment program grant and, in the event any such actions are required, authorizes the Kane County Board Chairman and/or the Kane County State’s Attorney to execute any documents necessary to implement and execute this grant, subject to the review and advisement of the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kane County Board authorizes the following adjustment to the Fiscal Year 2026 budget:
