Authorizing Additional Judicial Facility Construction Funds for General Construction Services with MRRW Construction, LLC (BID# 23-032)

WHEREAS, Kane County is currently in contract with MRRW Construction Services per Resolution No. 24-515 (BID# 23-032) to cover construction projects which cannot be performed in-house by County Staff; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 24-238 and 25-471 previously authorized Six Hundred Thirty-Five Thousand One-Hundred and Sixty-Two Dollars ($635,162) for Judicial Facility Construction projects as follows: 1.) Building bathrooms at the KCDC for Diagnostic Center employees 2.) Converting courtroom 150 to the Jury Check-In room, improving lighting, and building a new entryway to the back of the Kane County Courthouse 4.) Constructing a new security station complete with ballistics and proper functionality at the Kane County Courthouse; and
WHEREAS, there have been additional needs identified that directly affect the safety and security of Judges and court personnel in three (3) courtrooms at the Kane County Courthouse, specifically the size and placement of the benches in courtrooms 120, 210, and 220, which are currently not constructed to accommodate any computer equipment and offer no barrier between the Judge and litigants in often highly charged cases involving foreclosures, debt collection, private citizen disputes, and others; and
WHEREAS, due to the historical preservation of the Kane County Courthouse, continuity of the contractor for this and the previously mentioned projects continues to be vital; and
WHEREAS, adequate funds are available in the Judicial Facility Construction Fund, and the project will have no impact to the General Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kane County Board and the Chairman thereof hereby authorizes The Office of the Chief Judge and the Building Management Department to expend an additional Eight-Hundred Fifty Thousand ($850,000) from the Judicial Facility Construction Fund for the Kane County Courthouse bench project.
