Resolution Approving a Bid for Cattail and Common Reed Control at Eight Forest Preserves

WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary and desirable for the Commissioners of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois to authorize a bid for control of cattail and common reed at portions of eight preserves; and
WHEREAS, the District actively restores areas using modern fire suppression, clearing, and chemical treatments of both herbaceous and woody species; and
WHEREAS, the non-native, invasive plants hybrid cattail (Typha x glauca) and common reed (Phragmites australis) are aggressively spreading species that infest many District wetlands. They quickly form monotypic stands of themselves, at the exclusion of native flora and fauna; and
WHEREAS, contractors were sought to bid on summer 2026 control projects of multiple, separate infestations of cattail and common reed, across eight different preserves. The qualified, lowest bids for each project were as follows:
Project 1 Aurora West Forest Preserve (28 acres): Bid of $9,212 by Tigris Aquatic Services
Project 2 Braeburn Marsh Forest Preserve (3 acres): Bid of $3,090 by Tigris Aquatic Services
Project 3 Freeman Kame Forest Preserve (49 acres): Bid of $17,101 by Tigris Aquatic Services
Project 4 Hannaford Woods Forest Preserve (19 acres): Bid of $5,890 by Tigris Aquatic Services
Project 5 Oakhurst Forest Preserve (12 acres): Bid of $4,596 by Tigris Aquatic Services
Project 6 Stearns Road Forest Preserve (57 acres): Bid of $14,820 by Tigris Aquatic Services
Project 7 Willoughby Farms Forest Preserve (4 acres): Bid of $2,000 by Bluestem Ecological Solutions
Project 8 Rutland North Forest Preserve (17 acres): Bid of $5,100 by Tigris Aquatic Services; and
WHEREAS, the total for the above eight projects is $61,809.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois that the bids received from Tigris Aquatic Services for the control of cattail and common reed at seven Forest Preserves totaling $59,809 and the bid from Bluestem Ecological Solutions for the control of cattail and common reed at one Forest Preserve in the amount of $2,000 are hereby accepted and approved.
