Resolution Approving a Contract with Wight & Company for Final Design & Engineering Professional Services for the Muirhead Springs Forest Preserve Wildlife Overlook

WHEREAS, the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois, finds it necessary and desirable to retain the services of Wight & Company of Darien, Illinois, for final design and engineering professional services for the Muirhead Springs Wildlife Overlook in Hampshire; and
WHEREAS, the District applied for and has been awarded funding assistance from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Open Space Land Acquisition & Development grant (OSLAD) which, will reimburse up to $600,000 for engineering and construction; and
WHEREAS, in 2025 the District used a qualification-based selection process to select a consultant that would provide professional services for design and grant-application assistance; and
WHEREAS, Wight &Company was selected and successfully provided preliminary design and grant assistance for the project; and
WHEREAS, Wight & Company has submitted a proposal not to exceed $179,500 for final design and engineering services. Additionally, $18,000 shall be set aside as contingency to cover any unanticipated additional costs that may arise during design, permitting or construction, for a total project amount not to exceed of $197,500.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Forest Preserve District Board of Commissioners of Kane County, Kane County, Illinois, retain Wight & Company of Darien, Illinois, to provide final design and engineering professional services for the Muirhead Springs Wildlife Overlook, at a cost not to exceed one hundred ninety-seven thousand, five hundred dollars ($197,500).
